Just like Pompeii, Herculaneum and Stabia, even Oplontis was completely covered by the Vesuvius of 79 A.C. Unfortunately of this town we can only visit some suburban villas. One of them, well known as the “Villa di Poppea” is particularly beautiful and it seems it has been a property of Nero’s second wife. This could be proved even considering the fact that the house is extraordinary wide and sumptuous with no similar examples in the town of the area that had the same destiny. Inside this wonderful patrician house, you can see gardens, peristiliums, frescos, mosaics, a large pool and even a thermal complex.
What too see
The modern town named Torre Annunziata is not particularly interesting, but the Villa of Poppea is not to be missed.
How to get there
The Villa of Poppea is in the town of Torre Annunziata. You could get there taking a CircumVesuviana train up to Torre Annunziata and then walk for 300 meters up to the Villa.
We suggest you to go there by taxi (and tell the taxi driver to peek you after 2 hours).
