Paestum was founded by the Greeks around 600 B.C. It's original name was Poseionia in honour of Poseidon, god of the sea, but then it was deformed in Paestum by the Romans. The location is very important for the 3 wonderful temples. The temples and the ancient town were discovered by chance, during the construction of the road that still now, cuts the town in 2 parts. Paestum is very near to the seaside and, in summertime, it is possible to end the excursion relaxing on the long sandy beach.

How to get there
You can get to Paestum taking a Trenitalia train at the station is in the centre of Pompei. (2 km from the hotel). But the best way is surely by car, even because then it is easier to move around. This case take the highway to Salerno and get off in Battipaglia. From there starts the road to Paestum (SS18).
