Anciently known as mount Vesevus, it is the Volcano that in the 79 A.C. covered Pompeii and the surroundings area with a 4 meters high layer stratum of ashes, and pumice stone.

How to get there
By car take the highway A3 direction Naples (entrance 500 meters from the hotel). Exit at Torre del Greco and as soon as out of the pay tolls, take the road that goes up to the mountain. This road ends in a parking area at 1000 meters of height. From there a path takes you up to the crater at 1100 mt on the sea level. If you wish not going by car you could take a Circumvesuviana up to Ercolano. Then out of the station you may take a bus that takes you up to the top of the volcano.
